All that Glitters

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

I know Thanksgiving is next week but it is time to think about glitter, sparkles, and confetti. A few weeks ago I made a very fancy scarf that is really a piece of jewelry. Using Yang (wool, silk, bamboo and sequins) I very quickly knit up a beautiful scarf using only two skeins ($15 each) in a deep fuschia. Since I made the scarf a bunch of you have bought the rest of my Yang supply. Today my reorder arrived and we now have 13 different colors in stock. The pattern is free and for $30 you can have a quick addition to your holiday outfit or a wonderful hostess gift. It took me less than 8 hours to make this scarf - imagine… while the turkey is cooking, you can be knitting!

As we gear up for the holidays we also have just the right classes and events for you last minute folks:
Sweet Embroidered Buttons - One-day workshop, Sunday, December 14 from 10am-12noon ($30, materials included) with Karen (aka SimplyJune on etsy.com)
Cross Stitch Ornament - Two night class, Tuesday, December 9th and Thursday, December 18th from 6-8pm ($30, materials included) with Danielle

On Friday, December 19 we’re hosting our Last Minute Gifts Party (I love hosting gatherings here) and I need your help to make it a success. I would like to invite my customers to sell their homemade crafts at my shop that night. If you make beautiful things and would like to share them with the world, and make a few last minute bucks, join us that night. Due to space limitations I need you to “apply” for a space so I can make sure we have enough space and a good mix of items. Our event will be from 6-10pm and will be a nice time to get your last minute shopping done AND/OR send in that someone special to buy you the perfect gift. So, if you would like a space contact us for details.

Update on Photo Shoots

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

Marie’s photo shoots have been going really well. We have two afternoon openings left for Sunday, November 16th. Or, if you wish you had scheduled some time, you can always contact Marie individually (http://www.mariezemlerwu.com/). If you thought my kids were cute, check this baby out:

Turkeys Don’t Knit?

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

No they don’t but I got you to look at this post! If turkeys could knit I think they might make a warm and cozy neck protector (aka scarf) because it is getting cold outside and they need the protection… I know you all enjoy free patterns, so check out these links.

The first is for a fall-inspired afghan that Mira just finished:

For a smaller project with a similar theme, try the this link:

And, yes. The last link is actually a very cute kids hat:

So if you’re ready to get some cold weather knitting done we have the supplies for you. Every week we get new stuff in and this week is no different. Some of our new items in the shop include Classic Elite Alpaca Sox yarn (Noralie is making a fantastic Fair Isle hat in it), Jojoland Cashmere, Louet Mooi - a beautiful lace yarn made of Bison/Cashmere/Bamboo, and Amy Butler’s Birdie Sling bag pattern. We also are starting to stock up on gifts for knitters and crafters. We have an awesome collection of needle cases and a convertible bag that goes from mini to big enough for your project in no time flat. Don’t forget we also just stocked up on buttons and Soak Wash is a nice last minute gift basket addition for the knitter in your life.

Before you know it the holidays will be here so get knitting. Join us this Sunday for Sock Club (a little change from the usual schedule due to our photo shoot) and save the date for our Wish List Shopping Event on Friday, December 19th. This event is for you or your significant other to come and shop. We’ll be hosting a Bow Making Workshop as part of the evening’s festivities too! Details to follow, but in the meantime get those wish lists completed so we can start contacting your little Santas.

Late Weekly Post

Sunday, November 9th, 2008

Between the time change, Halloween and life, my weekly post is late - and I am sorry! I have a lot to share too… so let’s get to it.

First, I am sorry to let all of you know that Eliza is leaving for what I am referring to as a “real job”. I am so bummed out but she is still awesome and promises to do a class or two once she gets settled in the real world of high finance. Her last day is Friday, November 21st so between now and then come in and wish her luck.

Second, I need someone to try and replace her. It is a tough job filling Eliza’s shoes but I need someone who is gifted in knitting, has great customer service skills and can put up with me! That person or persons should be available to work Tuesday - Friday 10-8pm. There is some flexibility in this schedule but those are the hours I need to fill with one or two people. Please let me know ASAP via email if you are interested. I will put a public notice out next week - so get me those resumes.

Holiday parties are now being booked. If you would like to schedule an evening with us for your work crowd or girlfriends (or boyfriends) let us know. Nights are open in the month of December.

Next week we are trying a weekday Alterations Class. If you work an off shift this is the right time for you - Wednesday, November 12th from 11-2pm with Natalie. Also, Jacket Restore is starting Tuesday the 18th for 2 weeks. Join Jen (aka Blue Alvarez) for this very cool and fun way to restore an old favorite jacket.

Photo days are starting this weekend. We’ve had a few changes to our schedule for this Sunday so more times are available. Call us to book your time for Nov. 9, 11 or 16.

Lastly, buttons have arrived! We placed a huge order and they literally just arrived. You have asked and we provided!

Feel free to print out the Wish List (in pdf) and bring it in to make sure your loved ones know all your holiday wishes.
