February Kids Camp, New Sewing Classes Added, Soft Baby Yarn

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

We are a yarn shop that also offers sewing classs - and the demand right now for sewing classes is awesome! I have listed the classes that are all up and coming in sewing below and have attached the full list of all our classes as well. We also added a bunch of Amy Butler fabrics and patterns as requested and the swatched of all the prints currently in stock is also here. I hope you enjoy viewing them. We are happy to ship any lengths to you - just give us a call or send an email.

Kids Camp is now accepting reservation for February. Using a modified loom students will create a very cool project and develop their knitting skills. The days will be divided for each craft and lunch and snack provided. Please call and hold your spot because space is limited to 6. Kids ages 8-12 are invited - and no prior experience is necessary.
Our yarn inventory has really grown and many aren’t aware of all the beautiful yarns we carry. Last week we added Sincere, a 100% organic cotton in beautiful soft tones, perfect for a new baby. We also added Mac & Me patterns. For a full list of all our yarns and patterns, email me and I would be happy to send you the complete list.
Yesterday I received the current and last issues of Piecework. You can check out the contents of both at www.pieceworkmagazine.com . Both have exquisite projects and are worth a look. I am happy to hold one for you(or mail it to you if you are snow and water bound) if you would like.
So.. here’s the list of sewing classes:

Twist Fashion Show This Saturday!

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

The Twist Fashion Show is THIS weekend! We still have some room available - but I am finalizing my chair rental tomorrow. I will order a few extra chairs for those of you checking this late so please let me know. Some people think we can’t do yarn in Dorchester but let’s prove them wrong but ringing in the new year with an awesome turn-out! Thank you to everyone who has already RSVP’d - don’t you feel like a celebrity being on a guest list?

I have one funny story to share: one of my best friends called me yesterday in the middle of my class (at the high school). Her baby was due any minute so I was sure she was calling to say the baby came. Nope. She was calling to ask when the shop opened. I asked about the pending baby… she then told me contractions were 10 minutes apart! She was worried she would be in the hospital without an knitting project and needed to get here before going to the hospital to deliver! That is one committed Knitter. Well, I am happy to say she was shopping at the Stitch House at 11 am and had her baby boy at 1pm! Congratulations to Jessica and Paul (and their older son Robert) on the birth of baby Harvey. Welcome to the world - I can’t wait to make you something!

If you’re excited about Saturday - like me - check out the Twist Collective website. We’re showing 24 garments from the collection.

Regular Business:

* I am canceling This week’s Quick Sew because of all the furniture removing I’m doing for the Show. (I am sorry girls! I will make it up to you - I promise.)
* Beginner Knitting on Wednesday night starting next week has space
* Sock Club meets this Sunday from 12-2 with Katie

I hope to see you Saturday - and keep mailing me your knit and sew pictures - check out our page here to see what you’re making!

Happy New Year!

Sunday, January 4th, 2009

I hope all of you had a safe and happy new year celebration. I barely made it up to watch the ball drop on TV. Times have changed for me…once upon a time I would be out until all hours of the night ringing in the new year, now I’m on the couch hanging with the family. I’m not complaining, just reflecting…

Here’s what is great about the Stitch House over the next few weeks. First - we have a ton of great classes starting next week and the week after. A few to think about:

  • Intro to Knitting on Tuesday and Wednesday nights still has room
  • Intro to Sewing has one seat remaining on Thursday eves
  • Knit Design is a class not to miss is you are working on the perfect garment for you! We have a fabulous instructor in to teach this class - check it out!
  • Beaded Spiral Hat 2 Sundays in January with Nicole

On Saturday, January 10th I am so excited to host the Twist Collective Fashion Show. This will be an event to remember - but seating is limited! I am clearing out most of our floor space to fit in chairs (I’m renting a bunch for the day) but need to know how many of you are coming. Please RSVP and spread the word. I’ve bolded this because I really want you to come !

Keep those pictures coming of all the great gifts you made this year - I will post them on our website soon… I just need more!

Happy New Year!
