Spring is on the way!

spring

By the end of the week Spring will officially be here! If you’ve been following any of my emails you know how much I love the warmer weather. Softball season has started (my favorite) and I can’t wait to watch my sister play for her high school. With warmer weather around the corner it is time to start thinking cotton and lightweight yarns like linen, bamboo and some blends. I am just finishing up on the sweater that was on the cover of Interweave last month and think I might soon start a simple vest from “Simple Style” by Ann Budd. If you have the book or come in to the shop check out page 65. I might try it in the CotSoy (cotton soy mix).

Back by popular demand we have added a Crochet Class in April and another round of Butler Bag classes. Sign up here. In April we are scheduling our 2nd Weekend Warrior Workshop for Saturday and Sunday April 18 & 19. For this workshop you will make a “Trip Around the World” lap sized quilt. You can bring your own fabric or purchase Amy Butler fabric at a 20% discount when you register for the class. The workshop costs $150 and includes a quilting book, light refreshments and a boxed lunch for Saturday. Details will follow. Maximum class size is 8 so register early!

This past weekend I went to a yarn shop owners conference in Chicago - I learned a bunch of new things and collected some wonderful give aways for our next storewide event. Last year we had a half-anniversary show-n-tell day. I would love your feedback on whether you thought that was fun - and offer any suggestions on something else. You know I like having events here at the shop - so tell me what and I will plan it!

On April 10th we’re hosting a family portrait day with Marie. Book your family shot now! I will send all the gritty details next week but mark your calendar now.

I hope to see you soon.

Cheap - no- Inexpensive Choices

Thursday, March 12th, 2009

This week I got in this great cotton yarn from Plymouth. One ball makes a very cute newborn sweater and it only costs $14. The ball band has the pattern and the button - so all you’ll need to complete the project is needles and some time. When this came in it inspired me to remind you that we have great, quality yarns and a good price. For example, you can’t go wrong with Cascade 220 in regular $8 and Superwash $10. We have the Superwash in over 25 colors and almost 40 of the regular wool 220. Louet Riverstone Chunky is $7 with 165 yards. That is a great deal and we offer it in 25 colors. We also carry Encore and Cleckheaton yarns - with new colors in both. Malabrigo Worsted and Lace weights came in last week and Sheep Shop sock yarn is $16 for a hank that makes a pair! With these options (and more) plus all that is on sale this month - you are bound to find a great yarn for a special project.

For a quick, inexpensive night, join us for Quick Sew tomorrow night (Friday) from 7-9pm **please note the later start**. We’re making fabric lunch bags that double as awesome gift bags. All materials included for $10!

We are still accepting sweaters for our Baby Sweater contest.

This weekend is our first Weekend Warrior Session - got nothing to do - come craft with us!

I hope you can make it in soon!

Malabrigo In - Others Out! and NO SLEEP for me…

Thursday, March 12th, 2009
The kids mst be going through a growth spurt this week (or at least that is what a friend is excusing it as) because I was still looking at my clock at 4:34 THIS MORNING! There is no room in my bed for all these kids! Excuse any of my typos below…

This week we received 16 new colors of Malbrigo Worsted, more colors of the lace weight and a few replenishments in the Aquarella, Gruesa and Chunky! It is very exciting in the Stitch House this week. We also received dyeable yarn in 4 different weights - you dye to your taste. We’ll run a dyeing workshop in mid-Spring, but kool-aid is cool for dyeing.

To make room for Malabrigo I neede to clear some shelf space - - hence, an awesome, no joke, clearance sale. Some of what hes been on clearance is down to 75% off. I also have some at 50% and 25% including Jo Sharp (see what about about no joke) Louisa Harding Kasmir and Talinay & Gusto Chunky. See our in-store pricing below list for a closer review. These yarns are on sale until they are gone, but we have a lot and if you want to make a sweater or big project get it while the good colors last!
